A great weekend. Thursday night, my sister and brother-in-law visited, along with my 7 month-old nephew, Devon. Down from Idaho for five days, they stayed over before catching their Friday morning flight out of LAX. It was great to see them -- they are doing very well. Shane is back at school and is doing well, they've moved into a new house, and Devon is a pretty damn sweet kid. Here is a photo of the little guy: Friday, Tamara and I went to Lola's over on Fairfax for the first time in several months. Lola's not only has an amazing martini menu (of which we took advantage), but also makes the best macaroni and cheese Tamara and I have ever had -- perfectly cooked macaroni in a rich mix of cheeses with a layer of browned chewy cheese on top. To die for. Saturday, we drove down to SD to see our friends Rob and Leslie. We went to a goth Halloween party at the Museum of Man in Balboa Park -- what a venue!! I can only imagine how much insurance they had to get to host it there. Plus really solid music, and amazing people watching. Best costume: a perfect replica (or perhaps it was the real thing) of the classic Pan Am stewardess outfit (hat and bag included!). All in all a spectacular night. BONUS: An extra hour of sleep for us old people! Today, we took R&L to brunch at the Hotel Del Coronado. We had received a very generous gift card to the Hotel Del as a wedding present (thank you, Mary!), and finally had the chance to use it. It was a great meal, though I doubt I'll eat again for a long while. What is it about buffets that makes us utterly impossible to resist the urge to overeat? There's a sociology PhD in there somewhere. Now we'll try to stay awake long enough to see Rome and maybe even Extras. I hope you all had an equally wonderful weekend. Current Mood: tired, but happy
